Just What is a Podcast?

Picture this: you’re driving on the freeway and you are browsing from one radio station to another. You are looking for that perfect song to accompany you for the long drive ahead of you. But you just cannot find a song that is decent enough to listen to, and you have already been from one end of the radio to the other. Is this a familiar scenario for you? If it is, then you definitely should learn the technology of podcasting. You can do so many things with podcasting; you can even create your own radio station! And wouldn’t that be the perfect solution for the hypothetical scenario presented above? With podcasting, you can listen to whatever you want, when and where you want it. You no longer have to fuss with the radio dial in hopes of finding a decent song to listen to. You no longer have to miss out on your favorite talk show broadcast just because you have a class, or you’re cooped inside the four walls of your office cubicle. Podcasting easily solves this problem for you. And, get this: with podcasting, you no longer have to listen to those pesky commercials that plague your listening experience! Podcasting is certainly free from such hassles.

But what is a podcast? What exactly is it? Simply put, a podcast is actually an audio file that can be stored on a site over the Internet. This audio file can be downloaded right onto your computer, or even your regular MP3 player, so that you can listen to that file when and where you like it. The great thing about these audio files is that they can be just about anything! Music files, talk shows, records of teleseminars, lectures, sermons, tennis matches, or Friday night football games! All
these and more can be stored as podcasts, and you can download them easily for your convenience! Podcasting may be new technology you can find over the web, but you can now find thousands upon thousands of podcasts all over the web, and on a wide variety of subjects as well! All you have to do is perform a search for podcasts on a certain topic you are interested in, and you can find them in a jiff! Plus, there are so many websites right now that solely cater to the need for podcasts. When you visit these websites, you just have to browse through their collected categories and grab the podcasts that you find useful for your own purpose.

Another great thing about podcasting is that it can appeal to niche or target audiences. Because podcasts cater to a certain topic of interest, then there are thousands and thousands of podcasts made about that particular topic. This alone is a clear indication that podcasts can be considered the main source of in-depth information about certain topics because there are so many audio files sharing all sorts of data about these. And the fact that podcasts cater to a wider audience helps as well!

And if you are concerned about missing an episode or two of your favorite show, well, all you have to do is log on to the official website of your show, and find the podcast containing that episode you missed. Are you an avid fan of Grey’s Anatomy? You no longer have to worry if you miss an episode of this medical drama series because you can listen to their podcasts on their website! What’s more, you get tidbits of information from the writers and the producers themselves! Now, this is a way more informative method of catching up, wouldn’t you say? Podcasts have truly revolutionized the ordinary means of getting information nowadays.

I've really gotten into podcasts lately. Aside from being an avid fan of Grey's Anatomy, I also love and enjoy freedommainradio.com 'coz I found it intellectually stimulating. It covers a broad range of topics from economics to relationships to religion to philosophy to psychology to and how to achieve real freedom in life.
