So, what is this SEO that everybody's talking about?

SEO (search engine optimisation) is a progressive yet very effective process, of implementing standardised as well as ad hoc strategies that will help your website gain position in Google & other search engines. This means that your website will be found in the Google search engine result pages for some of the most critical keywords. Thus the right web visitors will not only find your website, they could be considered as your potential clients and can be eventually converted. SEO serves B2B, B2C, C2B, C2C as well as personal websites.

Following are some of the important steps involved in the process of optimisation -

On- page optimisation

* Keyword research and analysis
* Implementation of Meta tags
o Page titles,
o Meta description
o Meta keywords
* SEO friendly URLs
* Integrating keywords in copy
* Header tags (H1, H2, H3 tags)
* ALT image tags
* Anchor text implementation
* Sitemap

Off page optimisation

* One way back links & reciprocal
* Website submission to paid directories (optional)
* Website
submission to free directories / reciprocals
* Link request mails and correspondence with potential link partner

And other methods would include - Social media optimisation, Google Adwords, Google Maps, Google Ad sense, Yahoo search marketing etc

Optimising your website for search engines can many times be a very intricate task, especially since the standardised strategies are only a few, and each need to be revised to meet the requirements of each individual website. Thus SEO services demands flexible SEO skills, constant supervision & revision that will keep the website optimised to surf with the market trends in its respective industry.

But what we need to be aware of is the existance of another class of techniques, known as black hat SEO or Spamdexing. Some just call it spamming.

Many mistake the word spamming to mean (unsolicited emails) only. But this word could also mean the use unethical methods such like keyword stuffing or link farms. Google and other search engine consider this as un ethical as they consider these to be a form of manipulation prefer to ban these websites. There is a lot more to spamming than that which could fit in this article.

Great article and very informative. Perhaps you can elaborate more on the black hat SEO. I've heard of it but not sure what it means.
